When sending nominations, please state why the wrestler deserves to be "wrestler of the week", who they beat, and when/where.  Voting will usually begin on Wednesday or Thursday and end on Sunday Night. If you would like to make a nomination for the following week, please send an email to bbaker@wiwrestling.com

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK    # 5 (1/2/06 – 1/8/06)

For the third week this season, we have multiple winners of the wrestler of the week. Congratulations to Cashton’s Alex Dahl and Boyceville’s Aaron Kersten on winning the Week 5 co-wrestlers of the week award. Both had 23 votes at the end of the official voting period..

Alex Dahl, Cashton, 125, 11

Alex pinned all of his opponents on his way to winning the 125-pound bracket at the Cheesehead. The most impressive pin came in the finals against Kaukauna’s Nate Coulliard (3rd at 130 in division 1) in 3:20. Alex is now 22-0 and ranked 1st in division three.

Aaron Kersten, Boyceville, 145, 12

Aaron defeated Luxemburg-Casco’s Brad Zellner 6-3 in the 145-pound Cheesehead championship. Zellner entered the bout ranked 5th in division two at 145 pounds. Just as impressive, if not more impressive, was Aaron’s semifinal technical fall over number one ranked Tyler Bollant of Iowa-Grant. Aaron is now 18-1.

Other Nominees:

Josh Kyle, Wausau West, 130, 12

In a battle of number one ranked wrestlers in their respective divisions, Josh pinned Mineral Point’s Curtis Feidler in 1:18 in the 130-pound Cheesehead championship. Josh is now 21-0 and still ranked 1st in division one.

Zac Cibula, Luxemburg-Casco, 140, 10

In another battle of number one ranked wrestlers, Zac defeated Mineral Points Greg Burke 14-5 in the 140-pound Cheesehead championship. Zac is now 24-1 with his only loss coming at the Clash.

Brad Vankauenberg, Oconto Falls, 119, 10

Brad defeated Green Bay West/Southwest’s Spencer Peterson 7-3 in the championship of the Brawl in the Falls tournament. In the semifinals, Brad defeated Hortonville's Anthony Vande Hei 10-3. Peterson and Vande Hei entered the tournament ranked 5th and 10th respectively in division one. Brad is now 22-0 and is currently ranked 6th in division two.

Trevin Popp, New Holstein, 130, 12

Trevin defeated Green Bay West/Southwest’s Les Cornette 11-3 in the 130-pound championship of the Brawl in the Falls tournament. Cornette entered the tournament ranked 2nd in division one. Trevin is currently 17-0 and ranked 6th in division two.
