"Wrestler of the Week"

With Brad Baker

(12/15/2005)

Week 1

Just as we did last season, we are going to let the fans pick the wrestler of the week.  Our weeks will start on Monday and end the following Sunday.  We then will give you guys a few days or so to send in nominations then begin the voting.  When sending in nominations, please state why they deserve to be the wrestler of the week, who they beat, and when/where at.  The voting will usually begin on Wednesday or Thursday and end on Sunday Night.  If you would like to make a nomination for the following week, please send an email to bbaker@wiwrestling.com

Week 1

Austin Zwiefelhofer, Bloomer, 275, 11 and Nate Coulliard, Kaukauna, 130, 12

In a match up of number one ranked wrestlers, Austin defeated Rice Lake’s Anthony Loew 3-2.  Both wrestlers were state place winners last year.  Austin’s big victory earns him the week 1 co-wrestler of the week.  Austin and Kaukauna’s Nate Coulliard received 18 votes apiece.  Coulliard survived a loaded 130-pound weight class at the Kaukauna Duals last weekend with a 5-0 record.  Other wrestlers in his bracket included Stevens Point’s Ben Provisor, Green Bay Preble’s Dustin DeGreef (ranked 3rd at 125 in division one), and Ashwaubenon’s John Buntrock.

Other Nominees:

Tony Kazik, West de Pere, 135, Sr.

In a match up of multiple time state place winners, Tony defeated Wrightstown’s Kurt Bloemer 8-3 in the finals of the Little Chute tournament.  Both wrestlers are ranked second in their respective division.

Pat Willis, Medford, 119, 12

Pat, ranked 7th in the preseason rankings, won all five of his matches to win the Ellsworth Invitational.  Pat pinned River Falls’ Andy Rhoads in 1:38 in the championship round.  Rhoads had defeated the Division three 112-pound returning state champ 3-0 prior to the match up with Willis.

Lucas Haag, Mishicot, 171, 12

Lucas pinned Lena’s Matt Beschta in 5:51 in the championship of a tough 171-pound bracket at the Little Chute Invite.  Lucas is currently ranked 2nd in division three.

Ryan Vosters, Freedom, 125, 12

Ryan defeated Portage’s Matt Gaffney 10-7 in the fourth round of the Seymour Invite.  Both wrestlers entered the bout ranked at 119 (Gaffney 3rd, Vosters 5th) in Division two.

Jake Radkey-Pechacek, River Falls, 152, 11

Jake defeated Ellsworth’s Trevin Hines 4-3 in the finals of the Ellsworth Invitational.  Jake entered the match ranked 2nd at 135 in Division one while Hines was ranked 7th at 145 in division two.

NOTE: There are many others that I understand deserve a spot at least as nominees. For future weeks, please send in your nominees by Monday night. Be sure to include the wrestlers full name, high school, coaches name and number and the wrestlers recent accomplishments, including significant recent wins/accomplishments.
