Week 6 wrestler of the week
Eric Metzler, Luxemburg-Casco, 125, Sr
Week 6 winner is Luxemburg-Casco’s Eric Metzler.
Eric defeated Wrightstown’s Casey Klister 11-6 in a battle between
division two and three’s number one ranked 125-pounders. Both are three
time state qualifiers. Eric is a returning state champion and is
currently 21-0.
I have been trying to decide on a wrestler of the
week since Saturday and I still can not pick a clear cut individual for
that award. This may explain why I was a little late in getting this
done. So this week, I am going to try something new. This week, you-the
fans are going to pick by reading the nominees and their accomplishments
below, then going to the forum and making your vote. If you would like to
make a nomination for the following week, please drop me an email at
Bbaker@wiwrestling.com. When making nominations, please include
recent victories of notice, scores, along with NAME, SCHOOL, WT, GRADE.
The Nominees (in no particular
order)
Spencer Peterson, Green Bay West/Southwest, 112, Jr
Spencer pinned all of his opponents this weekend at
the Peshtigo Invite to win both the most pins award and the outstanding
wrestler award. Included in his victories was a pin over Brown Deer’s
Brandon Kirchner, who placed fourth at state last year at 103 pounds and
is currently ranked fifth in division two. This was the second time this
season that Spencer was named the most outstanding wrestler of a
tournament.
Eric Metzler, Luxemburg-Casco, 125, Sr
Eric defeated Wrightstown’s Casey Klister 11-6 in a
battle between division two and three’s number one ranked 125-pounders.
Both are three time state qualifiers.
Starr Moss, Whitefish Bay, 130, Sr
Starr defeated Arrowhead’s Kyle Hazelwood, ranked
fifth at 130, 6-3 in the championship of the Irish Invite. Moss also
defeated the fourth ranked wrestler at 130, Joel Vandeboom of Port
Washington 10-4 in a dual last week. Starr is currently 22-1.
Gabe Stoppelmoor, Turtle Lake, 152, Jr
Gabe defeated Arrowhead’s Zach
LePoidevan, ranked fifth in division one, 3-0 to win arguably the toughest
weight class at the Irish Invitational. Previously, in the semi-finals he
defeated the third ranked wrestler in division one, A.J. Phillips of
Ashwaubenon, 7-6. Gabe, a defending division three state champion, raised
his record to 27-0 for the season.
Ryan Vosters, Freedom, 112, Jr
Ryan defeated Malachi Root, ranked
fifth in division one, 11-7 in the 112-pound championship of the Irish
Invite. Root, a kids state champion last year, entered the bout with a
31-0 record. Vosters, ranked sixth in division two and a state qualifier
last year, improved his record to 22-4.
Max Askren, Arrowhead, 189, Sr
In a battle between the division one and division two
number one-ranked wrestlers, Max pinned Freedom’s Josh Schumacher in
5:11. Max is now 29-0.
Tony Posselt, Winneconne, Hwt, Sr
Tony defeated Markesan’s Eric Allen, a returning
state qualifier, 12-4 in a recent dual. What makes Tony’s victory even
more amazing is that he is a first year wrestler that decided to join the
team to stay in shape. Allen entered the dual with a perfect 18-0 record
and ranked third in division three.
NOTE: There are many others that I understand deserve
a spot at least as nominees. For future weeks, please send in your nominees by
Monday night. Be sure to include the wrestlers full name, high school,
coaches name and number and the wrestlers recent accomplishments,
including significant recent wins/accomplishments.
