With the 3rd, 9th, and 11th place matches over with, the wrestlers cleared the floor, and the Holmen High School dance team filed onto the raised center mat for a performance. Shortly after, the atmosphere reminded me of that which develops in the Kohl Center before finals. All the fans had taken their seats, rows which had been empty were now filled with spectators who had come just to watch the finals, workers were tossing Bi-State water bottles into the stands, fans were doing the wave and tossing beach balls and balloons into the crowd, and finally, the lights went out. It was time for the parade of champions. Lead by the directors of the tournament and the young woman who would soon sing the national anthem, all of the wrestlers who had wrestled or would be wrestling for a place marched out in single file from two opposite entrances. The circled the floor of the La Crosse Center until they reached the mat on which they had wrestled or would be wrestling (3rd and 1st places on the raised center mat, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th places on the side mats). There the wrestlers lined up across from their opponent and waited for the Holmen High School senior to step forward onto the raised center mat and sing a beautiful National Anthem. The directors of the tournament were then introduced, followed by the wrestlers who would be competing for first place. It was time for the 1st, 5th, and 7th place matches to begin. For this final round, I had decided I would move to a different section of the Center. As I started walking up towards one of the very top rows, I realized the 103-pound match had in fact started without me! I apologize for the lack of coverage on that match, but #1 Adam Theisen of Adams-Friendship ended up defeating #1 Jase Langkamp of Lancaster by a score of 4-2.
