The Hydration Test
The hydration test, in my honest opinion, is not a
reliable thing, nor is it needed. I do not see the point in it at all.
For example it's supposed to discourage a wrestler from cutting too much
weight.
Well if that wrestler wants to be at a certain weight he or
she will more than likely get there. Along the way they will
become dehydrated. The minimum weight is ultimately determined by
the body fat calibration any way. If a wrestler is or is not
dehydrated has nothing to do with if they are seven percent body fat or
not. Basically what it does is encourage wrestlers to cheat, so
they can pass. Also it is done only once, so just because a
wrestler wasn’t dehydrated at the fat test doesn’t mean they won't be
dehydrated many times throughout the year to make weight. It's
probably a huge mistake to not let the wrestler’s who don’t pass the
hydration test, body fat, because then they will know if they can even
physically make the weight they want to get too. Also to appeal
your results from a previous body fat test or in simpler terms to be
re-pinched, the wrestler doesn’t have to pass the hydration test. So in
conclusion why do we use a hydration test to prevent a wrestler from
cutting too much weight, when that’s what the body fat calibration does?
Sincerely
