Greetings Pointer
Wrestling Fans and alumni;
We are one week away from practice and everyone is excited to get in the room
and get after it. Many things have happened, in progress, and are coming up.
First from the alumni aspect. We have several new jobs that have been taken by
recent graduates. Josh Ison has taken a job in Hansen, Idaho at Hansen High
School teaching Family Consumer Science and looks to help coach wrestling this
year. Tyler Wozniak was recently hired as the Head Wrestling Coach and Social
Studies teacher for Morehead High School in Eden, NC. Jake Calhoun also moves
out of state as an Assistant Wrestling Coach for Gettysburg College in
Gettysburg, PA. And finally, Mitch Szwet has accepted the Head Wrestling job at
Kewaunee. Congratulations to those guys.
The John Roberts wrestling facility construction phase was completed this
summer. We are still accepting donations and are working toward room enhancement
phase. We anticipate getting new wall mats and a lift system for the new meet
mat sometime this year. The Pointers will have an open house in the new facility
before and after the UW-Oshkosh dual on November 30th. Mark your calendars for
that event.
Finally, watch you mail for out annual Takedown Club membership drive. If you do
not receive something soon, please let us know. We are going to have a
membership web page up soon as well. A link will be provided when that is up and
running. Watch for more updates and we move into the 2010-11 season.
Thanks for your support.

UW-Whitewater wrestlers settle for tie with Stevens Point
Greetings Pointer Wrestling Fans,
The season is upon us and the Dawgs are chomping at the bit. We recently had our
Pointer alumni football game and once again the veterans show the pups it’s not
age that matters. The old guys keep their unbeaten streak alive.
Now it’s time for the serious stuff. The Pointers will open their regular season
at home (as usual) with the Pointer Open on Saturday, November 8th. The boys
have been working hard and are anxious to get out and compete. After the open we
will start the dual meet season at Lakeland college on November 18th.
The first home dual for the Pointers will be against UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday,
December 2nd. Alumni, mark your calendars for that dual as it will be alumni
night for UWSP wrestling.
The pre-season polls have come out and UWSP is ranked #9 nationally with two
individuals ranked in the top 8. Chase DeCleene (141) is ranked 4th and Ben
Engelland (184) is ranked 7th.
Finally, we have sent out Takedown Club brochures. If you did not receive yours
please e-mail our office and we can get one out to you.
Thanks for your support and we hope to see many of you at our matches this year.
Sincerely,
Johnny
Greetings Pointer Wrestling Fans;
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far. I want to let everyone know
that our annual Pointer Wrestling Golf tournament will be held on Saturday,
August 23rd at the Stevens Point Country Club. Attached are a sign up sheet and
an information sheet explaining the details of the golf outing. This is our
second year at the country club and we are excited to be back. It is a wonderful
course and the staff there is very accommodating. We were able to move the
outing to a Saturday this year too.
Please mark it down on your calendars and we look forward to seeing many of you
on Aug. 23rd. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at
the office or via e-mail.
Enjoy the summer!
Johnny
Greetings Pointer wrestling fans;
As
many of you may know we just completed the WIAC Championships on Sunday. The
Dogs gave it a run for the championship, but fell short in the finals. UWSP
went into the finals 2 ½ points behind UW-LaCrosse and had 7 wrestlers in the
finals. Unfortunately we had very bad round and finished with just one
champion. Senior Craig Bollig (Verona) won the 197 lb championship with a
decision of Josh Holforty of UW-Eau Claire. Finishing 2nd for the
Pointers were Jake Calhoun (125), Jered Kern (133), Chase DeCleene (141), Eric
Bath (174), Ben Engelland (184), & Chad Gregory (285).
However, we did qualify 6 wrestlers to the NCAA tournament on March 7th
& 8th in Cedar Rapids, IA. Craig Bollig was an automatic qualifier
and the following guys received wild card bids; Jake Calhoun, Chase DeCleene,
Jake Wozniak (165), Eric Bath, & Ben Engelland. We are very excited about the 6
guys going to nationals and hope many of you will be able to join us in Iowa.
Thanks for your support!

Holiday Greetings Pointer Wrestling Fans:
The Pointers just returned from Texas where they competed in the Lone Star

several D. I, II, and NAIA schools. We did run into some very stiff competition
as we wrestled against the #1 & #3 ranked NCAA Div. II teams. The Pointers
finished 1-2-1 on the day, but battled tough against the competition. Senior
Jake Calhoun (125) was selected as the lower weight non-Div. I outstanding
wrestler. Jake began the day with a fall over Central Oklahoma’s returning
national runner-up and #1 ranked Tyler Zuckerman. A story and results can be
found at:

Prior to the Texas trip the Pointers defeated conference foe UW-Platteville by a
score of 22-13. Recording wins for UWSP were Jake Calhoun, Jered Kern, Jake
Wozniak, Eric Bath, Dennis Reckelberg, & Craig Bollig. The story and results may

The NWCA rankings have come out for January and the Pointers remain at #13.
However, two more Pointers have broken into the rankings. Jake Calhoun is now
ranked 10 at 125 and Eric Bath is back to 3rd at 174. In addition to these two,
Jake Wozniak remains #4 at 165 and Craig Bollig moved up to #2 at 197. Complete
