General Information: The Stevens Point Wrestling Booster
Club will once again be hosting the SPASH Summer Duals. The purpose
of the Duals is to provide a chance to wrestle a number of matches
as a team during the summer a couple weeks prior to Nationals in
Fargo. The atmosphere is “low-key” with the emphasis upon getting
as many matches as possible against very good competition, and will
provide a quality team-building opportunity in the middle of the
summer.
Location: Stevens Point Area Senior High School, located at
1201 North Point Dr., Stevens Point, WI.
Format: Matches will consist of 3 – 90sec. folkstyle
periods. A running clock will be kept with 20 sec. between periods
to allow wrestlers to get into position for the next period or
match. A “round” will conclude when all mats have wrestled at least
14 full matches (extra periods may be necessary due to blood or
injury time). A 10-15 min. break will be taken between matches to
allow coaches to set up the next matches. Teams are encouraged to
bring as many wrestlers as possible, and “exhibition” matches can be
wrestled on available open mats, or wrestlers can be placed on other
teams as needed to fill a vacancy in a lineup.
Weights: We will use high school weight classes + 7lbs.
(ex. 103# = 110#) and wrestlers can wrestle up one weight class just
like a regular high school dual. Heavyweight matchups may be
determined by mutual consent of the coaches without a weight limit.
This will, hopefully, allow your Football players to participate.
Wrestlers will not be allowed to weigh in without a signed
Permission/Release Form. The Duals are open to wrestlers who
will be eligible to compete in the 2010-2011 High School season.
Schedule: Weigh-ins 7-8:30am, wrestling to begin at
9:00am. There will be a 45 min. lunch break around noon. There
will be only light concessions on site (water, Gatorade, etc.) but
there are several restaurants and a grocery store within 5 min. of
SPASH (a map will be provided at registration). No food is
allowed in the Field house, but tables will be provided in the
Commons.
Cost: The cost is $150/team (This is to cover the
building/custodial fees). Please make checks payable to: Stevens
Point Wrestling Booster Club. Fees can be mailed or paid at
registration. Please make copies of the Permission/Release form for
each of your wrestlers.
*Coaches
who have attended our Duals in the past will notice that we’ve taken
a different approach this year, going with a one-day event without
incorporating a clinic. This should eliminate the need to get hotel
rooms for Fri. night, and reduce the overall cost. However, if
enough teams are interested in attending, we could wrestle 2-3 round
Friday night (as we have in the past). This would not
increase the entry fee. Please return your Registration forms by
June 1st so that we can finalize the schedule and
make the necessary contacts.
